THE York Minster Engineering Football League representative team will host the Kent County League in the semi-finals of the FA Inter-League Cup next month after seeing off the Staffordshire County League.

The YMEL rep XI won 4-0 at Harrogate Town's CNG Stadium, and now progress to the last four in only their second outing in the competition.

The Kent League, meanwhile, beat the Essex & Suffolk Border League 4-3 on penalties after their tie had ended 1-1.

There could yet be an all-North Yorkshire final, after the North Riding League beat the Isle of Man League 5-2 to set up a semi-final away to the Amateur Football Combination.

Semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday, March 24.

That Inter-League tie meant there was a limited fixture list in the York Minster Engineering League premier division - but there was no lack of goals with 20 netted in the three games.

The shock of the day came at Dunnington, where strikes from Adam Beavers and Jonah Beecher allowed Church Fenton to upset their hosts 2-1. Josh Cryer replied for Dunnington.

Poppleton started brightly at F1 Racing but a Chris Dempsey volley and Dan Hickey goal put F1 2-0 up after 25 minutes.

Poppleton pulled a goal back shortly afterwards, but a Tich Mashumba penalty and a strike from Alex Martin gave F1 a commanding half-time lead. A goal from George Trifan, plus a second each from Martin and Dempsey wrapped up a convincing 7-1 F1 win.

Wigginton Grasshoppers extended their lead at the top to a whopping 17 points with an emphatic 9-0 defeat of York RI.

Matt Tiplady opened the scoring after just three minutes and Jordan Holt doubled the advantage a quarter of an hour later.

Two neat finishes from Gary Newton and Kain Rogerson made it 4-0 before the latter set up Neale Holmes who produced an exquisite lob to make it 5-0 at the break.

A second-half hat-trick from Newton, including two penalties, plus a second goal from Tiplady, rounded off the scoring.

Wiggy's nearest challengers, Old Malton St Mary's, have five games in hand but face a fixture backlog.

Thorpe United moved a step closer to promotion back to the premier division with a 4-0 win over Brooklyn in division one.

Jordan Leybourn, Daniel Rodwell, Mike Braithwaite and James Barrett got the goals as Thorpe moved 15 points clear of their nearest pursuers, Kirkbymoorside, who have four games in hand after their match at Rawcliffe was one of those to fall to the weather.

Nick Kennedy netted a magnificent hat-trick for Easingwold in a 5-0 success over bottom club Wilberfoss. Tom Rushworth also bagged a brace in the victory.

Chris Newby and Graham Hutchinson fired Tockwith to a 2-0 success at home to Cliffe, a result that propels them up to fourth in the table.
