THE “little folk” are to get their own trail in the woods of Buttercrambe moor.

The plans, discussed by Ryedale District Council planning committee last Tuesday, are for a 2.4km network of woodland paths filled with tiny houses and doorways - homes for the fairies.

There will also be a reception building, cafe and museum and story-telling area, with solar panels for electricity and play area for children, as well as a car park with space for 60 vehicles.

Cllr Caroline Goodrick said: “If it’s supporting the glamping site, and people with children who enjoy going into the countryside and using the facilities and seeing some of the local wildlife, then I can support it.”

Cllr Paul Andrews seconded the proposal, added: “I think this is wonderful.”

But Cllr Elizabeth Shields warned: “If there are real fairies around then there may be rather more fun and games.”

The site, which would operate year-round creating 10 jobs, is an area of existing commercial woodland adjoining the Jollydays Glamping Site.

Access will be along the Stamford Bridge-Buttercrambe road.

The applicants described it as a “new, low impact and tasteful” tourism operation, and added that while they have managed the woods they have planted hundreds of trees, thousands of bluebells and put up bird and bat boxes.

In terms of a timescale for opening, they added that they are looking at the end of the year to open the first phase.

The planning committee approved the application unanimously.
