TWO sisters have received an award for their efforts in a community challenge.

Evie and Jasmine Jarrett, who live in Malton, took on the Accumulator Challenge set by the Encephalitis Society in November.

The charity, which is based in Malton, gave 17 teams £30 each and challenged them to use the cash to raise as much as possible in 30 days.

Winners were of the Community Involvement Award were Evie, aged eight, and Jasmine, six, and St Mary’s Primary School, in Malton, where they are both pupils.

The sisters sold raffle tickets and baked buns and cookies to sell. They also did a guess the

teddy’s name and raised a total of £133.

As a result they were invited to the House of Commons in London to receive their award.

Julia Clark, director of income generation at the Encephalitis Society, said: “To see someone as young as Evie and Jasmine embrace this Accumulator Challenge with such gusto was inspirational to everyone at the Encephalitis Society.

“We were so impressed with

their hard work that it seemed

only natural to invite Evie and Jasmine to the House of Commons to receive an award and to meet Rebecca Adlington and Kevin Hollinrake.

“Hopefully, it will be a day that they will never forget.”

Julia added: “Ambassador Rebecca Adlington was delighted to present the awards to winners of our Accumulator Challenge at the House of Commons.”

The Accumulator Challenge has raised £14,000 which will now be used by the Encephalitis Society to fund its work providing support to people affected by the condition, an inflammation of the brain, investing in research and raising awareness of encephalitis.
