MALTON and Norton Lions Club has donated £750 to Ryedale Foodbank to support their work in face of the growing need for its services across the district.

Money raised from a local “mega quiz” and a donation from the club made up the cheque.

Lion Ian Dewhurst, who worked with quizmaster Mike Williams to organise the quiz at Malton School, said: “Sadly we are finding that there is a growing need for local people to visit the foodbank and demand for its services went up again last year. As Lions members we are keen to support people who are struggling financially for many reasons .”

Lesley Hurley, foodbank manager, said: “We would like to thank the Malton & Norton Lions for their continued support of Ryedale Foodbank. They are very keen to help with food donations and monetary support.

“We are very grateful as this means we can help more people in our community through their support and generosity.”
