A PERMIT scheme for roadworks in North Yorkshire comes into force from Wednesday.
Under the new regime utility firms will have to get a permit for North Yorkshire County Council before they can dig up the roads, and the council will have more scope to make sure works don't clash, or hit the roads at the busiest times.
It can impose conditions and penalties if companies work without a permit.
