THE Milton Rooms in Malton is asking for people’s view as it aims to raise £1.6m to restore the building as an arts and heritage centre.
Both the Milton Rooms and Subscription Rooms, now the home of Malton Museum, have served the people of Malton, Norton and surrounding area since 1814.
Liz Whitehouse, development officer, said: “Over the last 200 years they have been used for a wide variety of purposes, but are now in a poor state of repair.
“The Milton Rooms, which is a registered charity, is trying to raise funds for a £1.6m project to restore the building as an arts and heritage centre.
“This includes bringing the dilapidated Georgian Assembly Room, facing Yorkersgate, back into community use and creating better access for disabled people throughout the building.
“The Milton Rooms needs the input of local people to inform their plans and provide evidence and support to their funding applications.
“We have launched and online survey and are inviting local people to help by completing the questionnaire.”
