THE horrors of the Holocaust have been remembered with a host of displays in Ryedale libraries.

Libraries in Malton and Pickering featured displays of posters, leaflets and books to remind visitors of the importance of the day - and of the impact of words.

The project culminated with International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Saturday, January 27 - the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Kevin Hollinrake, MP for Thirsk and Malton, pledged his commitment to honour those who were murdered and to pay tribute to Holocaust survivors.

He said: “The Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity for people from all over Thirsk and Malton and across the country to reflect on the tragic events of the Holocaust.

“As the Holocaust moves from living history to just history, it becomes ever more important that we take the time to remember the victims and also pay tribute to survivors.”
