RYEDALE job centre is to hold information sessions on new employment opportunities.

The sessions, on February 6 and 16, will be held at the job centre in Norton and include details on a recruitment drive by Flamingo Land.

Last week saw the latest employment figures released for the Yorkshire and Humber region. They indicate that unemployment in Yorkshire and the Humber has fallen since 2010, and employment is up 146,000 in the same time period.

Esther McVey, the new secretary of state for work and pensions, said: “We had a record-breaking 2017 for employment, and I’m delighted to see this trend continue as we enter the new year. At this time of year, straight after Christmas, people might be feeling a squeeze on their finances. We’re determined to help people keep more of what they earn.”

A job centre spokesman said estimates of the Ryedale unemployment benefit claimant count are still not being included in the Office for National Statistics (ONS) bulletin as “they may now be providing a misleading representation of the UK labour market”.

Separate figures released show that 42 per cent of the 700,000 universal credit claimants are in employment.
