A MALTON man has been nominated for two regional awards.

Ryan Swain, who is an entertainer and presenter, is up for two awards at the 2018 Yorkshire Choice Awards.

The 27-year-old has been nominated for Yorkshire Media Personality Of The Year and also the Kate Granger Outstanding Achievement Award, which recognises people who have not only gone the extra mile, but have given significant and lasting contributions to others.

Ryan, who lives in Malton with his partner Natalia and identical twin girls Ivy and Isla, who are two, suffers from ADHD.

He also works to raise awareness of the disorder which affects behaviour and the three main symptoms are inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity.

Ryan has also raised money for charity by taking part in various events, including the Great North Run and skateboarding from Malton to Scarborough and back.

Ryan said: “The media personality means so much to me as helping people is something that I have always done.

“It is also something which I have worked and devoted a lot of time and effort in to either on local television, radio, across social media and Flamingo Land Resort presenting Party in the Park.

“It’s great honor to be recognised and it’s a pleasure to help put my hometown on the map.”

Recognising local achievers, the Yorkshire Choice Awards aims to honour the region’s most inspirational local organisations, entrepreneurs and individuals.

Having raised more than £20,000 for local charities in the last two years, the duo behind the awards – Melanie Malcolm and Jo Maltby are aiming to raise even more this year for their chosen charity, St Gemma’s Hospice in Leeds.

Melanie said: “We are delighted to support St Gemma’s Hospice who provide expert care for local people with life threatening illnesses, a charity very close to my heart.”

Jo added: “We’ve had a phenomenal response to the awards so far; proof that Yorkshire really does thrive on amazing people.

“We’re proud to be representing a truly exceptional list of nominees, and the number of votes cast in such a short space of time aptly reflects everyone’s incredible contribution in their community.”

“Last year saw more than 266,000 votes cast in total and it looks like we are set for another explosive year – we don’t choose our winners, you do Yorkshire.”

Voters can select one person from each of the category sections, although they are limited to one voting form per IP address.

Votes can be made online at yorkshirechoiceawards.co.uk until March 16.

Winners will be announced at a gala dinner on April 13 at The Centenary Pavilions, Elland Road, in Leeds.
