A FORMER primary school teacher has died aged 87.

Margaret Crozier taught at St Mary’s Primary School in Malton over many years.

Originally from Middlesbrough, Margaret trained and qualified as a teacher at the then Endsleigh Training College in Hull in 1950.

After three years teaching in the Middlesbrough Cathedral Junior Girls School, she met and married Frank, a policeman, and they moved to Kirkbymoorside to where he had been stationed.

There Margaret briefly taught at the then Adela Shaw Orthopaedic Hospital before starting a family. They later moved to Lastingham where Frank was the village policeman until finally moving to Malton in 1965.

Soon after arriving in the town, Margaret covered for a teacher at St Mary’s before taking on a permanent post until she retired as deputy head in 1990.

Her eldest son Simon said: “In retirement, mum continued with her love of bowls, dad being an active committee member and chairman of the Malton Bowls Club. After a holiday to Australia, mum lost her beloved husband in 1994.

“As well taking an active part in the parish, she was also involved in the Malton Hospital League of Friends and was a familiar figure in the shop.

“She continued with her love of travelling and visited many holy places overseas and was also a regular visitor in Heidelberg, Germany, where I live.”

Margaret also leaves behind her three other children Ann, Susan and Paul, daughters-in-law Verena and Dianne, son-in-law Paul, grandchildren Rebecca, Lars, Andrew, Ashleigh, Anthony and Gemma and great-granddaughter Rae. Her funeral service was held at St Leonard’s RC Church on Monday.
