POLICE are appealing for witnesses and information about a fatal pedestrian collision on the A64 near Sherburn last night.
The incident occurred on the west-bound carriageway at around 6.15pm on Monday.
It involved a 26-year-old local man, who police believe had walked from Scagglethorpe, and a blue Ford Focus car.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
His family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Police are not yet in a position to release his identity.
The stretch of road remained closed to traffic until 10.45pm while the police carried out a detailed collision investigation.
Local diversions were put in place during this time.
Police enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward as soon as possible, including anyone who possibly recalls seeing either the man or the blue Ford Focus prior to the collision.
