THE Yorkshire branch of the Freemasons and Victory Lodge have presented £1,000 to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) at the Pickering Wartime Weekend.

The funds were raised following the vandalism of several carriages earlier this year.

In a statement the Freemasons said: "Both Provincial Grand Lodge and Victory Lodge were eager to contribute, and cheques for £750 and £250 respectively were prepared. What better opportunity to present them than at the war weekend.

"It was an honour to have the Provincial Grand Master to make the presentation on the Friday afternoon."

For the past four years, Victory Lodge has opened during the war weekend to provide lunch and refreshments to more than 100 visitors per day.

With the support of the members, the object is not only to raise funds for the lodge, but also to give the public an insight into Freemasonry.

The statement added: "Victory Lodge is proud to have been part of this generous gesture, and looks forward to a continued close relationship with the NYMR in the future."
