THERE was a ghoulish theme to many of the half-term activities for families in Ryedale this week.
At Castle Howard, until November 5, visitors have been able to enter the “burnt out wing” of the stately home.
Following the great fire of 1940, the wing was left uninhabited. But over Halloween, it is home to a spooky trail. For little ones, a Halloween trail, a themed sweet shop and a dressing up competition has made for a less scary day out.
At Howsham Mill, there were several events for children of all ages, including the chance to carve pumpkins, make magic wands, and create an edible wizard potion.
The mill also had a film showing of Steven Spielberg’s 2016 film The BFG.
At Beck Isle Museum in Pickering, there was a week of half-term activities including a fossil hunters day with a dinosaur theme, a day of stories and a print day with the Columbian printing press on show and the chance for children to try their hand at printing.
