RESIDENTS of Woodlands Road in Rillington have celebrated the opening of their new community centre garden.

The project was a collaborative effort between Rillington Primary School children and community members who had the opportunity to vote for their favourite designs, put forward by Year 6 pupils.

The work was then completed in late August and was sponsored by Yorkshire Housing. It features new seating, raised flowerbeds and an accessible walkway.

Lisa Ponter, deputy head teacher of Rillington Primary School, said: "We’ve been absolutely delighted to be involved in this project. Knowing they had an input in the garden design has brought a tremendous sense of achievement to the pupils.”

Yorkshire Housing resident Malcolm Vipas added: "We enjoy looking after the garden and helping out. It’s good for the community for everyone to be involved.

"We hope the garden will help to make our centre a welcoming place for new people and other residents."
