BRIMHAM Rocks boosted his sales value when winning the £100,000 Unibet Handicap at York Racecourse this afternoon.

Richard Kingscote was wise to the fact the pace was red hot on the front end and came with a race-winning run on the inside with over a furlong to travel.

Star Rock, who had sat close to the pace, and Je Suis Charlie gave chase in vain but Ralph Beckett's three-year-old won by a length and a quarter at 16-1.

Owner David Aykroyd said: "Unfortunately he's going to the sales now as we've a couple of lovely yearlings and we can't keep them all. We like to bring new blood in each year.

"He wasn't ready to race really at two, but he has progressed with each race and will make somebody a lovely horse next year."

Kingscote said: "The went very hard early and then stopped in front, which meant I hit the front far too soon.

"He was getting a bit lonely but he's been progressing, he bumped into a nice one (Sepal) last time out."

Roger Varian's Zabeel Prince (15-8 favourite) looked a cut above his rivals in the unibet.co.uk Handicap.

He holds an entry in the Balmoral Handicap on Champions Day and shot to 5-1 favouritism for that contest after beating Lincoln winner Bravery.

It was champion jockey-elect Silvestre de Sousa's first winner at York since Arabian Queen caused a 50-1 upset over Golden Horn in the Juddmonte International in 2015.

"I've just not been getting on the right horses," he said on being told of the anomaly.

Varian said: "We would like to run him at Ascot next week, but it all depends how he comes out of this. I couldn't tell you if he will run or not, but the intention is to.

"I think we needed a penalty to get in it and I think we should get into it. His condition will determine if we run or not."

Karl Burke's string have been in peak form of late and Beatbox Rhythm gamely held off Kyllachy Dragon to win the TSG Paul Beioley Memorial Stakes under Clifford Lee.

Beaten eight lengths by Shabaaby – the favourite for Saturday's Rockingham Stakes on the Knavesmire - the 12-1 winner found life much easier in this company.

"He is a nice horse and is due to go to the sales at Tattersalls at the end of the month, but whether he does I don't know. He is a good horse in his own right," said Burke, who won the Group One Fillies' Mile at Newmarket with Laurens.

Clive Cox's Awesome (4-1) lived up to her name following up a recent Chepstow win in the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes.

Adam Kirby's mount overcame a 6lb penalty in decent style.

"At the start of the season we felt she was pretty decent, but she was very weak. She's a stronger filly now," said Kirby.

Kirby then doubled up on Barford (7-1) in the Elevator Company Novice Auction Stakes for Pam Sly.

East Street Review (12-1) helped Tim Easterby pull one back on William Haggas in the race to be top trainer at York this summer, with victory in the Parsonage Hotel And Cloisters Spa Handicap under Duran Fentiman – meaning he trails by two.
