A HIGHLY regarded professor of endocrinology will be giving a public lecture in York at the weekend.
Professor John Wass’ lecture, entitled Music and The Mind, will take place at the York Medical Society Rooms, at 23 Stonegate, on Saturday at 2pm.
It will include an analysis of Charles Darwin’s comments regarding the influence of music on evolution, a look at the history of music and neurological aspects of musical appreciation.
Professor Wass has a keen interest in music and in particular how it influences our thoughts and behaviour.
His distinguished medical career is deeply rooted in the world of hormones. He used to be the head of the department of endocrinology at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism.
Last year he presented ‘The Fantastical World of Hormones’ on TV and he recently chaired an important government advisory committee on obesity.
