BRAVE souls are being tempted to take advantage of some spooky fun at RSPB Saltholme.

The nature reserve is offering a variety of family-friendly thrills over the weekend of October 28 and 29.

Visitors will be able to take part in a quirky quest around the reserve to uncover ghostly mysteries, create their own pompom Halloween creatures and listen to a spooky tale by the campfire.

Dressing up is encouraged, and there will be a pumpkin competition – or whatever other vegetable visitors may wish to use for their Halloween lanterns.

As the sun sets, there will be a number of evening activities, starting with a spooky self-guided tour around the reserve, this scary, twilight walk is an exceptional addition to any Halloween celebrations.

The day finishes with a bedtime story – with a twist. Saltholme’s favourite storyteller, Chris Connaughton, will be waiting by the fire with hot chocolate for all, ready to tell a Victorian-style ghost story.

Craig McNeil, RSPB Saltholme’s visitor experience officer, said: “Halloween is always a fun event for all the family. This year we’re running two separate events over the weekend - our usual drop-in daytime event with stories and activities, then a bookable evening walk suitable for all the family.”

The spooky evening walks, costing £2 per person, have limited availability so booking is essential. Day time entry to Saltholme is £5 per car for non-members, free for RSPB members. Additional charges for activities apply.
