STAFF and customers at a Norton pub are holding a series of fundraising events to help a young girl walk independently.

The Hyde Park in Mill Street is supporting the Hope4Mae charity with a three-legged pub crawl, slave auction and sponsored head and beard shave.

They are also holding a giant raffle with more than 100 prizes donated by local businesses.

Hope4Mae was set up by Amy and Matt Fox after their daughter Mae, eight, was diagnosed with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, shortly after her first birthday.

The youngster has since undergone a pioneering spinal nerve surgery in the US, costing £70,000 to aid her mobility.

This year Mae will need to return to the US to have surgery on her hamstrings, which will maintain her mobility.

The family, who live in Doncaster, have a holiday caravan at North Grimston and are being supported in their fundraising drive by the Hyde Park pub.

Susan Rice, from the Hyde Park, said: “Some of our staff and customers are taking part in the Major Series 5k mud run on Saturday, followed by a three-legged race pub crawl, knockout pool and darts.

“On Sunday, Martin and Stewart Cook are taking part in a sponsored head and beard shave and we will also have our big raffle and slave auction. We are very grateful to all the local businesses and organisations who have donated prizes for the raffle and helping us to support Mae, every step of the way.”

Mae’s mum Amy said: “We are massively touched that so many people are supporting us. Sometimes it feels we have a massive hill to climb and then things like this happen and out of the clouds comes a rainbow.”
