AN INVESTIGATION has been launched by police after a man made sexual comments towards a woman outside York station.

North Yorkshire Police said the inappropriate behaviour happened on two occasions within two days this week.

The first happened when the 18-year-old woman was standing by the zebra crossing outside York station between 6.20pm and 6.25pm on Tuesday (September 26).

A police spokesman said a man "walked across the zebra crossing towards her and when he was a couple of metres away he made comments of a sexual nature", then walked off towards the station.

The next day, police said same woman was approached by the same man between 6.25pm and 6.30pm. He leaned in to her and made further comments of a sexual nature before walking off, the police spokesman said.

The suspect was white, in his late 30s to 50 years old, with brown greying hair, wrinkles on his forehead and nose, light brown eyebrows and is 5ft 10ins to 5ft 11ins tall. He is of an average build and spoke with a gruff voice in a local accent.

The spokesman said the suspect wore a light grey, plain hoodie with the hood up and black trousers during the first incident, and a black hoodie or sweatshirt and black trousers during the second incident.

Police want to speak to anyone who saw the incidents, who recognises the man from the description or has any other information that could help.
