WE have absolutely nothing against making Fossgate a pedestrian priority zone during daylight hours, on a trial basis. It is a foodie street - and having pavement cafés will make it even more attractive.
If the way to achieve this is to change the direction of the one-way traffic restrictions during hours when cars are allowed down the street, so be it.
Some businesses, however, claim that the change in direction, introduced at the weekend, caused chaos. The council insists it spoke with local people beforehand. But with reports of vehicles travelling the wrong way and at least one near-collision, it does seem things could have been handled better.
