FORTY-NINE schools in North Yorkshire had refurbishments worth a total of £4 million over the summer holidays.
Builders put in new boilers and repaired windows and roofs as well as completing school extensions, new classrooms and kitchens. The council has also committed an another £1m for more works during the school year.
The county council's Cllr Patrick Mulligan said government funding would not cover all its school building needs, but the works they had paid for this year would make a significant difference.
