NESTLE Rowntree entertained newly-promoted Moortown 3rds who had been unbeaten in two seasons.

However, the visitors came up against a resolute Trees defence that gave them no room to run.

From the kick-off, Trees put the visitors under pressure and it was no surprise when after three minutes new second row Chris Corr charged through their defence to open the scoring.

More pressure saw a good backs move rounded off by full back Nick Thompson, converted from wide out by fly half Jack Daniels.

It was then Trees' turn to defend for the next 30 minutes with the occasional foray up field, but Moortown hardly got a sniff of the the hosts' line.

Even with a high penalty count against them and a man in the sin bin, their defence held firm and, from a good move from the backs, Thompson scored again on 30 minutes with Daniels converting to give Trees a 19-0 lead.

The second half was more evenly-matched for possession but Trees made better use of their ball and, with strong running, new prop Zak Hardy crashed over after 50 minutes with Daniels again converting.

Even at 26-0 up Trees were tackling anything that moved and when they had the ball were trying to play open rugby.

From a good move, hooker Jack Gabbatiss showed his pace to score out wide and Daniels converted to seal a fine 33-0 victory.
