A MOTHER and daughter are taking part in this Sunday’s Great North Run.

Val and Kelly Gaughan, who both live in Malton, are raising funds for Cancer Research (Yorkshire Team).

Val, 52, who works in Morrisons, said she had been running for about 12 years. “We have both taken part in 10k runs, but decided to do the Great North Run as it is 30 years since I lost my mother, Wendy Kitching, who lived near Terrington to cancer, aged 55,” she said.

Kelly, 22, who teaches at Norton Primary School, said: “I started running with mum about six years ago.

“We are both looking forward to the challenge and raising money for such a worthwhile charity.”

The Great North Run, which is a half marathon, starts in Newcastle and finishes in South Shields.
