ENTRANTS in the Stevo Super Sunday fun run at the weekend raised more than £1,000 for the Rob Stephenson Trust.

Seventy people entered the Stevo Stumble on Sunday, which began after a vigorous warm-up led by Sue Robson, the Slimming World leader from Pickering, who knew Rob as a toddler when she shared lifts to Mrs Howden’s Nursery in Malton with her daughter.

Rob Stephenson, from Pickering, died aged 21 after being struck by a taxi on a night out in York in March last year.

The trust was set up in his memory to help young people take part in sport. Rob had been a rugby player with Malton and Norton and a cricketer with Thornton-le-Dale cricket club.

Rob’s mum Nicki Stephenson said that participants in the “stumble” had ranged from “the lycra-clad fitness crew, to the people looking for a Sunday stroll with baby in a buggy”.

The route, starting and finishing at Malton Rugby Club, involved a 5k run or walk from the rugby pitch and down to the river bank before returning via Old Malton and the back fields.

The more enthusiastic and fit went for a second lap making 10k in total. The winners finished in less than an hour.

Nicki said: “Good fun was had by all and the ducking stool went down well, as did the Stevo games at the end, including raw egg throwing and the 2p run.

“On this gloriously sunny and hot day, the Trust raised £1,350.

“Thanks to all those who took part and especially to all the helpers, marshals and main organisers Chris and Sally Wilson, and Rob Hicks.”

The trust has supported a wide range of charities and organisations, both in this country and abroad. For more information go to the Rob Stephenson Trust Facebook page.
