THE annual Thornton-le-Dale Scarecrow Festival has raised more than £1,000 for charity.

The event, which took place over the weekend, saw the village invaded by more than 60 scarecrows, on themes as varied as Donald Trump, Postman Pat and the Loch Ness Monster.

Sarah Crabtree, one of the event’s organisers, said: “It’s been absolutely heaving. The weather helped, but then it always is a success.”

After the money last year going to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, she said that this year’s funds are destined for the village hall.

There was also a duck race held at the weekend to raise extra money.

The scarecrows are judged by members of the public who complete the scarecrow trail around the village.

The winner was Wallace & Gromit, followed by Donald Trump in second and The Fisherman in third.

Ms Crabtree said: “Thank you to everyone who came and supported it, and to all the people who made a scarecrows. We’re becoming very well known for it and we just need to keep the momentum going.”
