PUPILS at Ryedale School in Nawton are celebrating a strong set of results.

Among the headline figures, 31 per cent of students gained the English baccalaureate at garde C or above.

Mark McCandless, executive headteacher, said: "Our students have achieved a phenomenal set of results this year.

"85 per cent of the year group achieved a grade 4 (standard pass equivalent to the old ‘C’ grade) or above in English and maths.

"67 per cent of the year group achieved a grade 5 (strong pass) or above in English and maths. 37 per cent of all grades achieved were top grades (A*/A or 7/8/9), which is truly exceptional.

"I am very confident that given this great set of results in which students of all abilities achieved well that our 'Progress 8' score will be very positive once again when it is calculated later this year.

"I am very proud of our students’ performance and delighted to see their committed approach justly rewarded.

"I would like to thank students, staff and parents for their hard work in securing such an excellent set of results and I wish all of our students every success for the future."

Pupil Benjamin Coughlan got six A*s, three 9s and an A. "I'm generally very happy. I got quite lucky with some of them," he said.

He added his plan is now to go to Gordonstoun to do A-levels in maths, further maths, chemistry and physics.

Hattie Eve and Anna Xanthi are both going to Ripon Grammar for their a-levels. Hattie said they were both looking forward to the boarding aspect. "It's the next step to independence."

The highlight of their two years of GCSEs? "Getting the results."

Domenica Wilkinson, secondary director, said: "Our students can feel justifiably proud of their performance and are now able to see the value of their sustained efforts during their time at Ryedale.

"Equally as impressive as our number of top grades achieved are the results of those students who have worked so hard to achieve their target grades and fulfil their potential.

"I would like to wish our students all the very best as they embark upon their chosen Post 16 courses."
