FOR this week’s Way We Were we feature five photographs taken in the 1940s of dairy staff at Home Farm, Swinton Grange, which have been sent in by John Crossland.
He was a former employee in the 1960s when two men machine-milked more than 100 pedigree Ayrshire cows, as oppose to the photograph above which shows the five men and six land army girls responsible for hand-milking the 70 cows at that time.
The others are family photographs taken on and around Laundry Lane (the residential area on the estate), as well photographs of the Ayrshire cattle taken during an exhibition held at the farm in 1945.
