THE organisers of the Farndale Show have said it is going to be “a fun packed day for all the family”.

The small agricultural show in the heart of the moors will take place this Bank Holiday Monday, August 28. This is its 110th year.

Gill Little, show secretary, said: “Plans are going well; the fields are slowly beginning to dry out after the awful weather we’ve been having recently and now everyone is hopeful but crossing fingers for a sunny day.”

She said that entries are up on last year “across the board”, aside from in poultry, where she said the “testing time” earlier this year with avian flu will mean the tent may seem quiet.

She added: “The ever popular photography section has seen a huge uptake with more than 250 entries across the classes - an increase of nearly 100 on last year."

New to the main arena this year will be a trail bikes demonstration, showing off the skill and technical ability of the stunt riders.

This year the show will open to the public at 9.30am instead of the usual 10am, in order to accommodate the popular horse events.

Ms Little added: “There never seems to be enough time in the day.

“This year will see the addition of a craft tent showcasing some of the area’s amazing talent with demonstrations and crafty gifts to buy. The tent will be up in our top field where the horse events take place, near the trade stalls.

“As usual we will see the flying acrobats from Owl Adventures and the majestic grandeur of the Clydesdale Horses, with cattle and tractor parades too.”

Music will be provided by the Bilsdale band and there will be refreshments available.

There is free parking close by and limited ringside parking, including parking for wheelchair users, but this is allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Entry is £5 for adults, children are £1 and under fives are free. Cars parked on the showfield £3.

For exhibitors, gates open at 8am. Horse judging will start at 9.30am, and all tent exhibits must be ready for judging at 10am, which starts for most classes at 10.15am prompt.
