POLICE are investigating a possible assault after an altercation between two people on a train in Ryedale.

The incident happened on a train bound for Scarborough from York yesterday.

A North Yorkshire police spokesperson said: "We were called just before 5pm on August 17 from a train en route from York to Scarborough reporting an altercation between two men on the train."

Several police vehicles attended Malton station as the commuter train came in.

The spokesperson added: "Officers from North Yorkshire Police boarded the train at Malton.

"Enquiries are ongoing in relation to an assault."
