A FIRE crew has attended a fire in Malton which was believed to have been started deliberately.

The crew, from Malton station, were called at 10.25pm last night to the site at Braygate Street.

A fire spokesperson said it was burning in the open, and that someone had deliberately set fire to rubbish and building materials.

The firemen extinguished it using a hose reel jet.

In a separate callout last night, crews from Pickering and Malton were called at 7.37pm to a bailer on fire on Whitbygate, Thornton-le-Dale.

A fire spokesperson said it had started when the baler overheated.

The baler suffered total fire damage.

Crews extinguished the fire using breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and small tools.
