TRIBUTES have been paid to a much-loved and well-known member of the local community.

Jackie Lamb, 70, who lived in Settrington, died in a collision on the A64 near Scagglethorpe last Monday.

In a statement, her family said: "Norman, Vicki, Nicholas Lamb and their families are devastated at the loss of Jackie in this tragic accident.

“Jackie was a much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, great aunt and friend to many. She was a well-known and much-loved figure in Settrington and beyond. She was a founding member of the tennis club and she will be sorely missed for her many unsung acts of social charity."

David Woollard, a friend of the family, who also lives in Settrington, said: "To me Jackie was the smiley face waving a greeting as she drove past that made one of those happy moments in the day. She was the knock at the door collecting for Poppy Day and the RNLI - both charities dear to her heart.

"Visits that might have been over in minutes, but always stretched on into a long and friendly chat about anything and everything."

He added: "There are many things I remember and others who knew her better will remember more than me. And for all these things and more she will be sorely missed.

"Her death was tragic and her loss is great and that sadness ripples right round this small community. My heart goes out to her family."

Ann Cleverly, who also lives in Settrington, said: "Jackie was always on her rounds collecting for charities and she was one of those people who it was always a pleasure to see. She was a real star and a very friendly person. Jackie was a great back-up to Norman and supported him on the farm and a devoted mother and grandmother. The whole village is desperately upset at this very sad passing."

Anne Baron, from Thorpe Bassett, had been friends with Jackie since their school days. The pair were also founding members of Settrington Tennis Club and joint presidents.

She said: "Jackie loved her tennis and she was a very keen player and a good player. We played together in many of the local leagues.

"Once or twice a year we would also go on walking holidays together and most weekends we would go for a walk. Jackie loved nature and was a real outdoor person who knew a lot about the birds and wildlife. We had some good times together - she was a very good friend."
