A MALTON School student showed his martial arts prowess by beating all-comers to become a national champion.
Year Eight student Tom Dodsworth, a purple belt in Ju Jitsu, won the title in his weight category at the British Ju Jitsu Championships in Newmarket.
Tom was accompanied to the event by his Sensai Dean Harker. It is the second year running that Tom has won the title. He was a Gold Medallist and British Champion in 2016 too.
Tom Green, Head of PE, said: “The PE department is thrilled with Tom’s successes in Ju Jitsu and hopes he will continue to excel in this in the future.”
Tom, who took up Ju Jitsu two and a half years ago, practises once or twice a week at Amotherby Village Hall and Captain Barney’s.
He said: “ I used to do karate too as I really enjoy martial arts. It definitely gives you more confidence and keeps you fit.”
