TO a cheering, smiling and waving audience of family, friends and well-wishers, Norton College’s Year 11 and 13 students made their way over the red carpet to their for their annual prom.

For Year 11 students, the event was held at the college and students could have their picture taken professionally or at a fun photo-booth with silly props.

The hall was laid out in a cabaret–style with helium balloons, a chocolate fountain and a candy cart. There was also a DJ and pizzas.

Headteacher Phil Loftus handed out award sashes to the Prom King and Prom Queen – Leoni Allardice and Ryan Wales– and others, including for the loudest lad (Tom Wainwright), funniest lass (Abbey Frederiksen) and most likely to win the lottery and loose the ticket (Brad Gregory).

Becky Blackburn, prom organiser, said: “It was another great Prom for our fantastic Year 11s and a pleasure and privilege to share in the celebrations. There was real camaraderie in the year group. The students have worked so hard all year; it was their time to enjoy themselves altogether. As many of the students move on to the sixth form here, or make other choices, we are confident in the start they have had at Norton College, equipping them to cope with the challenges ahead.”

Year 13 students headed to Kennedy’s Bar in York for their prom.

Gemma McDonald, head of sixth form, said: “The students had a fantastic evening to celebrate all of their hard work throughout the last two years of Sixth form.

“Norton College would like to thank the year group for being such fantastic role models to younger students and we would like to wish them all the best in their future adventures.”
