THE QUEEN of Hearts, Alice in Wonderland, and the Gruffalo, were just some of the unusual visitors spotted on the streets on Huntington this weekend.

The village hosted its annual scarecrow trail, and some 47 characters took up positions on the streets to entertain visitors and locals alike.

The weekend also managed to raise £500 which will be split between two local charities: Age UK York and Band of Rescuers - a group of local volunteers who rescue and rehome animals.

Joint winners in the public vote category were Alice in Wonderland on Ikin Way, and the Gruffalo on Chestnut Court, while Meila Hairdressing won the best shop or business category for Bat Girl & Wonder Woman and the Community Centre won the best organisation category for A Knight's Tale.

Organisers have thanked everyone who helped make the weekend a success.
