A YORKSHIRE charity is urging Ryedale residents to hit the coast this summer to explore the UK’s marine environment.

The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s The Sea and Me celebration coincides with National Marine Week from this Saturday to Sunday, August 13.

Teaming up with the YHA Boggle Hole in Fylingthorpe near Whitby, the charity is holding activities, including "seashore safaris" and coastal walks several times a week during National Marine Week and throughout the summer holidays.

Ana Cowie, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s Wild About Rockpools assistant, said: “This is a really exciting opportunity to work with YHA Boggle Hole and to widen Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s presence further up the coastline.

“The area is absolutely incredible and provides us with a fabulous rockpooling experience every time we go there.

“It’s one of the best areas around for young people to enjoy their first encounter with different marine species and will bring back fantastic childhood memories for adults.”

Details of all the events at Boggle Hole and other marine-inspired talks, activities and workshops are available from ywt.org.uk/whats-on
