POLICE investigating a serious collision at the weekend have said that the female driver died at the scene.

It happened on the B1261 Main Street, Seamer, near Chew Lane and between the A64, at about 3.15pm on Saturday.

A local woman, aged 63, driving a light-coloured Kia Picanto, suffered fatal injuries.

The driver of a blue Citroen C5, a 63-year-old from the East Riding of Yorkshire, was taken by air ambulance to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment to abdominal injuries. He has now been discharged from hospital.

The Citroen was heading south towards Staxton when the collision occurred with the Kia, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

A full road closure was put on at the crash scene with local diversion in place. This allowed the emergency services to operate safely and for the police to carry out a detailed collision investigation.

The road re-opened just after 9pm.

Witnesses who either saw the blue Citroen C5, or the light-coloured Kia Picanto prior to the incident or the incident itself, should phone North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option two and ask for Zoe Billings.
