THE Milton Rooms presents a performance with a difference on Saturday, July 15.

Three Ryedale amateur music groups and a group of Bollywood dancers will perform music and dance developed as part of a project with Asian arts organisation Manasamitra.

The project brought together Malton’s Harmonia choir with Supriya Nagarajan, one of the most sort-after classical Indian Carnatic vocalists in the UK, supported by Duncan Chapman, a composer and sound artist.

London-based composer Shri Sriram has been working with the Swinton Excelsior Band and Thornton le Dale Ukuleles. Shri has composed and written for theatre, dance and Indian feature films. Last year he won the British Composer of the Year (Wind or Brass Band) Award with the cutting-edge new work 'Just a Vibration'.

The Milton Rooms concert ‘Utsavan’ brings together all the groups in a celebration event (utsavan means ‘celebration’ in Hindi). The groups will perform items from their normal repertoire plus new music developed as part of the project.

The evening will be rounded off with an energetic Bollywood dance show featuring Chiragi Solanki and her dancers. Chiragi has over 20 years of experience teaching and performing dance.

The project was funded by grants from Arts Council England and the Wharfedale Foundation and organised by the Milton Rooms.

Tickets for this show, priced £4.50 (£2.50 for under 18’s), are available from the Milton Rooms on 01653 696240 or online at wegottickets.com/event/ 407239.
