SHOP owners have spoken of their anger after three large glass windows were smashed by vandals overnight.
The Frock Exchange, County Classics and Taboo hair salon, in Saville Street, were all subject to damage which is believed to have taken place in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Lorraine Corrigan, owner of the Frock Exchange, said: “Coming to work Saturday looked more like a ‘war zone’ than a pretty street in a North Yorkshire market town.
“What can be done about such drunken behaviour. Our three businesses will be open as usual, however, we will all have to fork out our own money to cover the cost of repairs for senseless crime.
“What message must we be promoting to visitors coming into Malton.”
Robyn Calladene, owner of Tabu hair salon, said she had been called out at 1.30am and had not got home again until 4am.
“The window had gone through and glass was shattered across the middle of the salon.
“Fortunately some friends came in to help me clear it up so I could open that morning,”
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police are investigating criminal damage of three shopfronts in Saville Street, Malton, which is believed to have happened in the early hours of Saturday, June 24.
Witnesses should phone North Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number NYP-24062017-0288.
