AFTER two sell-out years at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival the internationally acclaimed singer, pianist and entertainer Joe Stilgoe brings his show to Helmsley Arts Centre.

Joe will appear in Songs On Film to Ryedale in a special solo event on Saturday, July 1.

Songs on Film pays tribute to much-loved movies as self-confessed film buff Joe raids his own collection and adds his own original and stylish orchestrations to some of the most memorable moments in cinematic history. From Hollywood’s golden age, to the classic films of the 80s, to the work of Tarantino, Tati, Paramount and Pixar, Joe performs songs written for and inspired by some of the greatest films of the last century.

The show features a number of your popular favourites in a show of virtuosic musicianship, breath-taking theatricality and wit.

Joe himself, has toured all around the world with his band and as a solo act, having appeared in jazz clubs from New York to Berlin to Kuala Lumpur, including sell-out runs at legendary London venue Ronnie Scott's. He has appeared as featured soloist with orchestras, including the BBC Concert Orchestra, John Wilson Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Northern Sinfonia, Lahti Symphony, and the RTE Orchestra in Dublin.

In the past year, Joe has performed at the Olivier Awards, presented three special Big Band shows at the Lyric Hammersmith and been commissioned to create his very own Celebration of Gene Kelly for the EFG London Jazz Festival. He also went on his first tour of Australia, presented the BBC's Young Jazz Musician of the Year Award on BBC4, and performed for both Prince Charles at St James' Palace and Prince Phillip at Windsor Castle. If this wasn’t enough to show just how incredibly talented and versatile Joe is, he’s also an ambassador for Children and the Arts and a trustee of The Orpheus Centre.
