A PUPIL at a North Yorkshire secondary school who visited an orphanage in South Africa said the experience has changed her life.

Alice Brencher, a pupil at Tadcaster Grammar School, visited an orphanage in Durban during the Easter holidays.

In this country Alice is also involved with homeless projects and said: “I witnessed the extreme poverty in our world first hand and I was able to participate in serving our global society and letting my heart be broken for the poorest and most vulnerable people.

“This experience has cemented that I will fight for those living in poverty and will strive to bring justice and freedom for those who are in need; I hope the rest of my life will reflect this. I travelled with eight other people from York, who I knew quite well. The trip was simply put on for us to have the opportunity to serve a culture that produces extreme poverty and vulnerability, especially for children.”
