A ROTARY club has been handed a cheque for £1,500, with local charities set to benefit from the donation.

The money was raised by the Dalby Dash 10k run, held in Dalby Forest.

Dr Dave Capes, from Pickering and District Rotary Club, was presented with the cheque and the money will be shared out among a number of charities. The Lord Mayor of York, councillor Dave Taylor, and Lady Mayoress Susan Ridley attended the presentation, as did Jamal Shah from race sponsor Mumbai Lounge restaurant, and race director Darran Bilton.

The race, held every Remembrance Sunday in Dalby Forest, raises funds Help for Heroes and in last year's race members of the soldier's rehabilitation centre at Catterick Garrison competed to show their support.

Through Pickering and District Rotary Club, local charities also benefit from the event, which is in its sixth year, and has raised a total of £15,000 for good causes.

Mr Bilton said: "The Dalby Dash 10k has captured everyone's imagination. It is wonderful that Help for Heroes receive the lions share of money raised but it's also fantastic that other charities on our doorstep benefit too."

This year's race will be held on November 12. The race is limited to 600 runners and you can enter at www.dalbydash.com
