VISITORS will be transported back in time to a land of myth and legend at Castle Howard this half-term.

From today (Saturday) to Sunday, June 4, visitors are invited to meet Hesiod, the mythologist and storyteller, on a journey to rescue some of the oldest myths which are getting lost in time.

Hesiod, the toga and sandal-wearing storyteller, will lead an epic quest to Olympus and back to save some of the mythical heroes represented in Castle Howard’s statues. A mix of music, fun challenges and even a chariot race will bring the stories of Apollo, Marsyas and Phaeton back to life.

Marketing manager Rachel Underwood said: “These interactive and energetic expeditions are a fantastic way for families to discover more of our gardens with young and old getting roped in to help uncover these myths and legends.”

Each of the mythical expeditions lasts about 45 minutes, and include the chance to join in mythology-themed craft activities indoors in the South East Wing, from 11am to 4pm.

Rachel added: “Families can also discover the maze of woodland paths with our brass rubbing trail and uncover the mysterious pyramid which emerges from the undergrowth.”

Myths and Monsters adventures take place daily at 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 3.30pm and are included with garden tickets. For details, visit castlehoward.co.uk
