POLICE are appealing for information after a large plant from damaged and stolen from a display.

A man wearing a white shirt was seen pulling the leylandii spiral plant, valued at around £200, out of a pot at the end of Baxtergate, Whitby at 1.10am on Saturday, May 7. He then proceeded to drag the plant around the town centre.

The three-foot tall plant had been growing in the council-owned pot for five years before it was uprooted and stolen.

Officers are investigating, and have issued a CCTV still of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the theft.
