A RYEDALE charity is running a volunteer training course for its project supporting adults struggling with their mental health.

Scarborough Whitby and Ryedale Mind (SWR Mind) helps up to 600 local people every year with a range of mental health problems who are isolated and often have nowhere else to turn.

The charity is looking for “reliable, supportive and understanding” volunteers to support people in the community through its Side by Side project in the Ryedale area.

Sessions will run in the Pickering area on Wednesdays May 31, June 7, June 14 and June 21, from 10am to 1pm.

Natalie Miles, volunteer co-ordinator for SWR Mind said: “We’re looking for people who are able to spare a couple of hours a week, have an ability to be empathetic and a willingness to engage with our new volunteer induction training.”

“Any particular skills or hobbies that you may have such as an interest in local history, sports or baking for example and are willing to share could be a huge benefit.”

“SWR Mind and our service users are all appreciative of the help and support that our volunteers are enable us to help people living in such a rural area.”

Volunteers will have expenses paid and will be given references for employment or study.
