A DENTIST has “braved the shave” and had her hair cut off for charity.

Nicola Garner, 31, who works at the Pickering Dental Health Practice, faced the clippers on April 26.

Colleagues at the practice made an afternoon of it with a raffle for patients, all in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

“The day went really well and we have raised more than £3,000 so far,” she said. “Local people and local businesses were really generous. The raffle itself raised over £200 with some great prizes won.

"I would also like to thank all my lovely patients and work colleagues for their support. My mum and sister were there on the day too. I hope they were not too traumatised...”

“It is very cold having no hair! My daughter Violet loved my new hairstyle and was not scared at all. She was desperate to show all her school friends.”

Ms Garner said undergoing the shave as a “visible way” of fundraising after her mother-in-law was diagnosed with cancer.

“When someone you love gets diagnosed with cancer, it changes everything. Then it’s personal,” she said.
