TWO people who were missing after a boat ran aground on the North Yorkshire coast have been found safe and well.
A search operation took place this morning after wreckage of the sailing vessel 'Don't Panic' was discovered on Scarborough's South Bay rock armour.
It left Scarborough harbour yesterday evening with two people on board.
A man, claiming to be one of the two people, has contacted Humber Coastguard saying the pair are both safe.
The Coastguard's search mission co-ordinator Peter Macauley said: "He said they ran aground at 11pm last night.
"They both managed to get safely ashore and go home."
He added: "It would have been helpful if they contacted the emergency services or coastguard but they didn't."
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said: "Police assisting the Coastguard with a search have located two people safe and well in Scarborough."
Two Coastguard teams, an inshore lifeboat, a coastguard helicopter and police officers took part in the search, which was called off at about 9.15am.
