I was interested to see (River buses could ease traffic jams, May 6) that two transport specialists are suggesting that river transport could be used by tourists coming into the city but would not help commuters.

We live in Fulford and see twice daily the road solid with commuter traffic, creating pollution and frustration. Perhaps consideration should be given to co-ordinating the use of the river by tourists and by commuters, particularly during rush hours.

Having written twice to The Press in the past suggesting use of the river to reduce congestion, I am pleased that it is being considered at last.

Most older cities are built on rivers and many have found ways of fully utilising this asset to help chronic traffic problems. Surely it's is worth taking a little further and using some imagination to help those of us who live here, not just the visitors.
