CROWDS cheered and waved as the Tour de Yorkshire made its way through Ryedale.

In Norton, pupils from the primary school and Norton College were among those lining the route along Langton Road.

Norton College headteacher Phil Loftus said: "There has been a lovely community atmosphere and it has been really nice to get out and chat to people as well as watch the race. it has been a real team effort."

At the Derwent Arms in Norton a jazz band is providing the musical entertainment in Norton as people watched the race go through.

The White Rose jazz band are all local musicians who come together to attend various functions and events.

Member John Welford, said: "It is great being here today and part of the Tour de Yorkshire and it all adds to the atmosphere.

Norton Mayor Councillor Ray King, said: "I am delighted the Tour de Yorkshire is passing through the town once again and I hope everyone has a fantastic afternoon."

Large crowds came out in the sunshine to line the streets of Malton. There was music from the band Feedback, who set up outside Suddabys on Wheelgate, and further up the road, from Ryedale a-capella group The Four Quarters.

Staff from the Morrisons supermarket were handing out free doughnuts, and a barbecue was set up outside the New Globe pub.

Organiser Brian Swales said it was for a good cause: "We're raising money for a charity called 'Changing Lives in Cambodia'", he said.

There's three of us going over in September to refurbish and extend a school in a rural area of Cambodia where there's very little education. We're just going to give a bit of help to people who need it."

All the meat for the barbecue was donated by the Ginger Pig butchers from Levisham, so every penny went to the charity.

Other charity fundraisers in the crowd were raising money for the Alzheimer's Society - one of the Tour's official charity partners.

To the north of Malton, in Kirby Misperton, anti-fracking protestors lined the route, chanting and holding up banners. Two police liaison officers were on site but the protests remained non-disruptive.

We'd love to see your photos and videos from the first stage of the event as it heads through Ryedale.
