ANGER has been expressed over the ‘wanton damage’ to daffodils in Malton and Norton.

Over the past couple of weeks flowers have been picked and destroyed in various areas of the town including the riverside walk, Langton Road and Scarborough Road in Norton, as well as Broughton Road in Malton.

Litter, including bottles and cans has also been left in the riverside picnic area.

Mayor of Norton, Councillor Ray King, said: “Both Norton and Malton Town Councils work hard to improve the environment for the whole community.

“One of these areas is that of providing flower and plant arrangements throughout our two towns.”

Cllr King added: “How disappointing it is to find that some senseless morons can delight in destroying these displays.

He said: “I frequently use the Riverside walkway and have been delighted to see how the large tubs of daffodils have enhanced the experience.

“Recent works on the riverbank and works undertaken by the Environmental Agency have had a tremendous impact on this area.”

“I appeal to the whole community to report any sightings of the destruction of these displays to the authorities”

Jezz Kipling, who lives in Malton, said daffodils had also been picked and damaged in the Broughton Road area.

“We have had problems with damage to the daffodils on Broughton Road planted years ago by pupils at Malton School.

“I can’t believe what some people are like causing the wanton damage of these lovely daffodils on Broughton Road who ever you are you should be ashamed of yourselves. How would they like it if we pulled the daffodils up at their home?”

Anyone with further information should contact Malton Police on 101.
