HELMSLEY is gearing up for the popular annual 10k run.

Organised for the eighth year, the event raises money for Helmsley Recreation Charity.

The event is being sponsored by housebuilders Keepmoat and North Yorkshire County Council’s Trading Standards who are launching a new healthy eating initiative.

Carol Swift, one of the 10k organisers, said they were delighted to secure the support for the event..

She said: “We would like to thank them for their sponsorship which helps ensure we can organise the 10k each year.”

Carol said the route had been officially measured and they were hoping around 400 runners would take part.

She said: “This is the eighth run we have organised and entries are already up on last year.

The multi-terrain race takes place on Easter Sunday, April 16, at 10am. The first 300 finishers will be presented with a mug and an Easter egg.

There will also be races on the sportsfield for children aged five to 15 with a medal and an Easter egg for all those crossing the line.

Other activities will include refreshments, tombola and stalls.

Two trophies will also be presented in memory of Stuart Pailor, who died in 2015.

Stuart helped establish the event and was a key organiser of the annual run.

Trophies will be presented to the first unaffiliated male and female across the line.

Carol said:“Stuart was a big supporter of the race and encouraged people to take part. Without him the 10k run would have never got going so last year we introduced the Stuart Pailor Memorial Trophy in his memory.”

Postal and online entries close on April 10 and the minimum age for entry is 15 years on the April 16. Entry is £12 registered, £14 unregistered. Entries on day are £3 extra..

Organisers are appealing for volunteers to help on the day. For more information, phone Carol on 01439 771072 or visit helmsleysports.org
